Our commitment

Splendense is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to our own website and to the platforms we build for our clients.

This statement is issued in line with the Dutch Tijdelijk besluit digitale toegankelijkheid overheid spirit and the European Accessibility Act (EAA, Directive (EU) 2019/882). While our marketing site is not a public-sector body, we hold ourselves to the same bar.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Splendense.nl is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Measures we take

  • Semantic HTML5 landmarks: <header>, <nav>, <main>, <article>, <aside>, <footer>.
  • A visible skip-to-main-content link on every page.
  • Colour contrast that meets or exceeds WCAG 4.5:1 for body text in both light and dark themes.
  • Full keyboard operability with visible :focus-visible indicators on every interactive element.
  • Meaningful text alternatives (alt or aria-label) for informative images and icon-only buttons; empty alt="" for purely decorative visuals.
  • Modal dialogs use role="dialog", aria-modal="true", aria-labelledby, and move focus to the close control on open.
  • Form fields have visible <label> elements, aria-live status regions announce validation results, and errors are conveyed with both colour and text.
  • The lang attribute on <html> updates whenever the user changes language (EN, NL, FR, DE, IT).
  • The theme toggle is a real <button>, keyboard operable, with aria-pressed and a descriptive aria-label that announces its current state.
  • Motion respects the user's prefers-reduced-motion setting.
  • Tap targets on mobile meet the 44 × 44 CSS-pixel minimum.

Known limitations

Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known issues we are actively working on:

  • Case-study and news modals — focus is moved to the close button on open but is not yet trapped inside the dialog. Users of screen readers can still navigate the entire page; escape closes the dialog.
  • Skills marquee — the auto-scrolling brand strip pauses on hover but does not yet expose a pause control for keyboard users. It carries no essential information; all skills are also listed statically on the Expertise pages.
  • Third-party embeds — where we embed third-party content (e.g. LinkedIn), we cannot always guarantee their accessibility.

We aim to resolve open items within the next release cycle.
